Come and join UNISON Goldsmiths' black members self-organised group for a special Black History Month screening of Betty: They Say I'm Different.
With her suggestive lyrics ("If I'm in Luck I Might Get Picked Up") and daring outfits, funk singer Betty Davis was way ahead of her time. Maybe too far. A “Madonna before Madonna, Prince before Prince”, wrote jazz trumpet player and former husband Miles Davis in his autobiography from 1989. Betty: They Say I'm Different, named after her second album from 1974, examines on the basis of interviews with relatives, friends and former band members the question of why this 'bold soul sister' retired from the music industry in the late 1970s.
After the screening, do join colleagues for a lunch and chat on campus.
If you are a UNISON Black SOG member the film screening and lunch is free.
For non-members, you will be expected to pay for your ticket.
